I often jokingly call myself "Dobby", a creature from the Harry Potter series.
Dobby, a house-elf, is enslaved to a magical family and can only be freed when his masters give him an item of clothing. He tells Harry Potter:
"Tis part of a house-elf's enslavement, sir. We keeps their secrets and our
silence, sir. We upholds the family's honor and we never speaks ill of them."
The house elf that dares speak ill of his master must take responsibility to punish himself.
Thank goodness I am a liberated house-elf!I no longer feel evil and mentally punish myself because I dare to disagree with the actions of the church 'master'.
Her power over me is steadily waning.
I hope all the spiritually-abused 'church elves' also find such freedom.
